Review

This is my first experience with a CBD-dominant 510 thread cartridge. I have been a nicotine smoker since I was 16, and have been vaping for over ten years now. I’ve tried to quit time and time again, but have yet to be successful. But for the last five days now I have been utilizing this cartridge as an alternative to my usual nicotine vape in hopes of finally kicking the cravings. I decided to opt for something flavourless because flavoured vapes tend to increase my consumption. So let’s jump in and see how this does. 

Packaging

This came in a green mylar pouch, which I’m not a huge fan of for 510 cartridges, but I understand trying to cut costs. I’ve seen a lot of broken carts over the years, so I do prefer that they come in either a hard flat case or a doob tube. On the front we have a small logo, and the cannabinoid content. 

In terms of hardware, this looked like a standard duck-billed mouthpiece that was built out of recycled hemp. Ten points for hemp use! Way to go MediPharm. They used the standard metal & cotton coils instead of ceramic coils, but I had no issues with clogging and as I write this review (with this vape in hand) I’m about 75% through the cartridge. 

Visual Appeal

At the time of initial opening, the oil in the cartridge was a fair bit lighter, but within about 24-48h of opening and beginning to use,  we can see that this darkened up pretty quickly. But as far as oxidation goes, this is pretty typical among any carts. One thing that stood out to me visually speaking, was that this cartridge never seemed to crystalize the way some CBD carts tend to. 

Taste & Aroma

Like I mentioned earlier, when selecting a CBD cart I opted for something without added flavourings. I think the added flavourings in nicotine vapes (and even cannabis vapes, who are we kidding) tend to increase people’s base level of consumption. For example, I was only vaping my nicotine vape here and there but if I found a flavour I really enjoyed, I suddenly became a “pack a day” vaper. So opting for something flavourless was ideal for me. I am also not a huge fan of weed vapes as a whole because I like my weed to taste like weed. 

This was a really lovely cartridge! It definitely tasted like weed, and it was a very natural taste. Not super heavy on the added terpenes, it tasted very much like vaped dry herb. I loved it! According to the OCS listing, they add Humulene, Caryophyllene, Pinene, Limonene, and Nerolidol to their terpene blend. 

This was the first cartridge that didn’t leave me with that uncomfortable throat feel as well. However, I did find that after a few puffs, you could feel a slight coating of oil on the roof of your mouth. But I found that to be much more bearable than the throat discomfort from THC vapes.

Smoothness

Incredibly smooth!! I really hate 510 cartridges as a whole because they always either trigger my asthma, or give me a chronic sneezing episode as though I’m allergic to something in there. So as you can imagine, I was worried about even attempting to replace my nicotine vape with a 510 cartridge. Turns out there was absolutely nothing to worry about. This was a 10/10 for smoothness. 

After 3 days, I noticed some pretty significant improvements to my lung condition. The fluid build-up in my lungs from my nicotine vape had reduced dramatically, and I could take deeper breaths. Because of the reactions I typically get to cartridges, I wasn’t expecting to have such significant improvements within only a couple of days. 

Potency & Duration of Effects

We all know CBD is non-intoxicating, but non-intoxicating does not mean non-psychoactive. Do not be fooled by the CBD label, this was very potent. 

Although I wasn’t stoned, I was definitely feeling very relaxed and even slightly sedated. I had selected something with some CBG to hopefully keep me a little more energized and alert, but this was strong and comes with some heaviness behind the eyes. For some consumers, I can see this being potent enough to use before bed. On that note, I’ve been sleeping very well the last week. I’m notoriously a night owl, but have found myself going to bed around 11pm instead of my usual 1-2am. 

Whenever I had a craving of nicotine, or felt my anxiety seemingly rise for no reason, I gave myself a minute or two to really draw out a couple long, slow, puffs. Before I knew it, the cravings were gone and my anxiety is at zero. I’ve never known what zero anxiety is like, but this has been very pleasant. 

Overall

It’s day 5 of me using CBD cartridges as a replacement for nicotine carts, and I’ve noticed some pretty incredible changes in just five short days. My asthma is much better, and my lungs don’t have the same fluid in them causing my chronic Smoker’s Cough all day. I’ve also been sleeping much better, and my anxiety is at the lowest it's ever been. Of all the times I’ve tried to quit smoking, this has been the easiest. I’m not smoke-free yet, but we’re making huge strides with the help of MediPharm Labs

Honestly, my only issue with this cartridge is the price. It was a little expensive for 1g, but based on what I’m seeing on HiBuddy that isn’t actually a MediPharm issue, but a dispensary issue. I went to one of the most expensive shops in Kitchener. While I might shop around for something a little cheaper, I’m worried that I won’t find the same effects as what MediPharm is providing here. I was nervous because at $50 after tax, I really couldn’t afford for the cart to clog on me, but there were no issues with clogging or crystalization.
