Review
It’s been a while since I’ve smoked anything from Qwest. In my first year of budtending, back in 2021, Qwest was selling as high $73 for 3.5g in some stores. So when I saw that they had a 7g offering available for under $40 my curiosity got the best of me for sure. So this week I’m smoking some Qwest to see how much the quality has changed from $20/g to $5.50/gram.
Packaging 4.5/5
They did a great job with the packaging, including a glass jar as well as two boost packages to help maintain the 7g. They also listed the total terpene content, but didn’t list the dominant terpenes. I really loved that they used a glass jar here though.
Visual Appeal 4/5
These weren’t bad looking at all. They were a light green colour with some trichomes visible, and beautifully hand trimmed. The buds were a little on the smaller side though. Smaller buds typically means less stem, so that was alright with me. Not terribly sized just missing some of that “wow” factor.
Bud Size 2.5/5
A little smaller than average. The 7g jar was made up of a total of 14 small buds.
Bud Density 5/5
These had an excellent density to them. They were pretty much as dense as they could get without being some of those hard rock buds that we see sometimes.
Moisture Level 5/5
I was surprised to see that this was packed with two Boost humidity packages at the bottom of the jar. However, they did really well with adding two of them because the moisture content of this jar was absolutely perfect. Not dried out at all, no crumbling when you went to squish the buds, it was great.
Trichome Density 4/5
A light layer of trichomes were easily visible to the naked eye here, but I would have really liked to see a little more pop on the frost.
Aroma 4/5
A very nice aroma meets the nose when you open this up. Heavier on the cake and floral aromas for sure, didn’t really get a lot of fruit or cream. Although the smell was really nice, I did find it was lacking a little bit. I would have liked a little more.
Taste 3/5
A little underwhelming on the taste. Like the smell, I didn’t really get any distinctive notes coming through apart from what you find in most cake strains. I was hoping this would have been a little more dominant on the grape, but this wasn’t one of those strains. Overall, pretty average on flavour.
Smoothness 5/5
Lovely smoothness to it! My asthma was very happy smoking this one, no coughing or harshness to it at all.
Potency 3/5
A good daytime indica, this was a great smoke to chill and build some lego with. It wasn’t super sedating, so maybe not ideal for a nightcap before bed, but this wasn’t bad for a daytime indica. Very relaxing.
Duration of Effects 4/5
Effects lasted a decent length of time and I didn’t find myself searching for a top-up bowl too often.
Overall 44/55 (80%)
It’s great to see Qwest coming in with some more affordable flower, and for under $40 for 7g of whole bud, this wasn’t a disappointment. The buds weren’t huge, and the flavour was a little average, but I want to be clear that it didn’t taste bad. I’m just a big flavour-chaser and would have liked to see a little more. But for the price point I would be happy to recommend this jar and even repurchase it. Effects were great for a day-time smoke and might even make a good wake n bake for people who like a slow morning.
