Review

Sweet Justice (SJ) has been known for their ultra delicious albeit ultra sweet cannabis-infused sodas. However, this new zero-sugar line uniquely named Bar Hop also comes with some unique flavour profiles including OG Citrus Hop Water and . Let's take a look.

Packaging 4/5

This came in a slim 355ml can, with a light green colour that I thought was great. I liked that their logo is large enough on its own to stand out, but also includes the SJ logo underneath with the flavour easily found on the bottom. They packaged it with an accessible child-resistant lid as well which is always appreciated. I think for something like this it might have been nice to have it in a glass bottle, but the can design looks pretty good too.

Visual Appeal 4/5

This beverage had an almost lemonade colouring to it, a very light yellow, like an off-white. It was nice to see that they didn’t use any colourings in this. We tend to see a lot of that these days. It was a little bit foggy, and had a few very tiny bubbles.

Aroma 3.5/5

This was a tough score for me. In terms of aroma potency, this would have scored a 5/5. Very potent floral, herbal, and hoppy smells. However, the aroma wasn’t necessarily pleasant.

Taste 1/5

As a category, this was sparkling water. Plain and simple. However, the flavour was really extreme. It was very bitter (zero sugar in this can), and tasted exactly how it smelled with a slight aftertaste of citrus. This really wasn’t a drink for me, and I actually couldn’t drink it straight. To try and help get it down, I mixed it 1:2 with zero sugar ginger ale and it was drinkable.

Effects 1/5

I usually give all beverages an “average” score unless they are really spectacular because of the 10mg limit being insufficient for me to properly determine the effects. Unfortunately, I can’t say that applies here. I could only drink about a third of the can, so I can’t really rate the effects.

Overall 13.5/25 (62%)

I was intrigued by the name and the logo, but the flavour really wasn’t for me. I think this was a little bit everywhere for me and I’m not sure if perhaps I’m missing the intention behind this product. By the flavour, I thought it was a floral or hoppy sparkling water but it isn’t the most palatable that way. I know they were targeting that zero-sugar market, but a little bit of sugar might have gone a long way with this one. The aroma is also quite potent. I took a look at the OCS description to see if they gave any further information, and they make it clear that it is “NOT A SELTZER!” but I’m still not sure what it is. The Sweet Justice website doesn’t list this product yet either, so it was a bit of a shot in the dark here. The name “Bar Hop” leads me to believe that maybe I was right to mix it. However, if we’re diluting a 355ml can to get a 10mg dose, the consumer would need to drink a huge volume of liquid just to get that 10mg. God forbid they need more. If that's the case, I’d like to see this come out in a small shot-size concentration to make it easier for full consumption. While I’m a huge fan of Sweet Justice products, I’m not really too enthused about this one but maybe the strawberry would have been more for me.
