Packaging
A sleek slim tall can in a traditional Root Beer colour. Their logo takes up the majority of the can, but I like that they went big with branding. It looks pretty good. For CR packaging, they used a Can’t Top which is always appreciated for accessibility purposes.
Visual Appeal
This looked like your traditional root beer, but it was significantly more orange than I’ve ever seen before. Even the foam had an orange hue to it. But it looked exactly like you would expect of a more “craft” root beer.
Aroma/Taste
This can was very sweet and they went really heavy with the caramel on this one, which can be noted if we take a look at the ingredient list. Caramel is the third item on the list. Each sip tastes like a candied caramel flavour, like a handful of Werther's Originals were dissolved into the bottom of the can. It also gave a very thick texture to the drink.
Despite the abundance of foam that first appears when cracking the can, this very quickly lost its carbonation and became a very thick can of syrup. I was shocked that there was only 17g of sugar in this can, but after looking at the ingredient list I don’t actually know what a lot of those ingredients are. For all I know, some of those are zero sugar sweeteners because this was exceptionally sweet. The root beer flavour itself was pleasant though, and reminded me of something in between an A&W root beer and a Dad’s Original.
Overall
I think I wanted something a little bit less sweet or caramel flavoured, but I think with the proper level of carbonation this could have been really good. The potential was there, it just wasn’t executed as intended. I paid $8 for this at Growers Retail in Waterloo, but I’m seeing it listed on HiBuddy for as high as $10 at some retailers. At that price point, I think this is wildly expensive, and I do not recommend it. There are far better beverages on the market, and some of which are infused with concentrates other than distillate.
