Review

I can’t believe I’ve been budtending since 2021 and haven’t yet tried a Jonny Chronic product. I remember back when I started, they were priced at a much more premium level which was part of why I never tried them in the past. But at $22-23 for 3.5g my curiosity is finally getting the best of me. So today we are trying some Tropicanna to see what this is all about.

Packaging 4/5

This was straightforward - packed in a plain black mylar pouch, without a humidity control packet. But I was thrilled to see a full terpene breakdown on the back of the packaging, as well as a breakdown of lineage.

Visual Appeal 3.5/5

Buds were small, bright green, with some orange hairs and a few leftover sugar leaves. The trim was pretty average, as well as the total trichome coverage. But for the price point, this wasn’t disappointing.

Bud Size 3/5

These were pretty average sized. The 3.5g bag was made up of 6 smaller sized buds.

Bud Density 5/5

You know how sometimes you open a bag, and the buds are dense as rocks? That's exactly how these were. I’m not a huge fan of that, I like them to have a little more nerf to them, but I’m still going to give it full points here.

Moisture Level 3/5

They didn’t include a humidity control packet inside, and this probably could have done a little better with one. The buds were a little dry.

Trichome Density 3.5/5

The trichomes are there, but you have to go looking for them. Pretty average, but pretty much what I expected to see at this price and potency level.

Aroma 4/5

Upon opening the bag, you’re hit in the face with various notes of citrus. Orange, clementines, and mandarins can’t be missed. Very pleasant smelling, but I wanted a little bit more.

Taste 5/5

I was expecting the taste to be lacking at the same level as the aroma but that was not the case here at all. The flavours are very bold and they come through heavy! Every time I smoked a bowl, the flavours would linger and tempt me to pack another. Delicious flavour, exactly like mandarins and fresh squeezed orange juice. I smoked this out of my bong, but this was the kind of flavour I’d really appreciate in a joint.

Smoothness 5/5

A very pleasant smoke! No harshness, no coughing, no puffer needed.

Potency 4/5

I cracked this bag open just before midnight, so perhaps not the time most people are looking to smoke a sativa. But that being said, I did find that it somewhat slowed me down. It wasn’t immediately as I smoked the bowl, but about ten minutes afterwards I found myself relaxing and finally slowing down for the night. I might consider this one a little more of a hybrid than a sativa, but still a great smoke. Not super heavy for a wake n bake either.

Duration of Effects 3/5

Pretty average in the sense that about an hour later I was itching for another bowl. But not bad at all.

Overall 43/55 (78%)

This was good! Visually speaking this is pretty much what I expected to get for under $25, but the high was well worth the price. HiBuddy is showing that it usually sells at around the $20 mark. A great valued bag, it was a mild high with huge flavour - great for beginner smokers, or someone looking for a light daytime smoke. I like to enjoy the entire experience, including the smoking process, so having my bud taste good is important. If I was low on funds and needed something budget-friendly to pick up this would definitely be a go-to for me. Very pleased with my first experience with Jonny Chronic and I look forward to trying some more.
