Review
This was my first experience with anything from Tam Tams, a Rose Life Science brand grown in Quebec. When I was picking out my next smoke the name just kept jumping at me and I was curious to try something from a new brand that I also had zero feedback about. I have a history of loving any of the honeydew or melon strains, so I was excited to see how this did. Going in completely blind and unbiased for the first time in a while was fun, but will they be getting a repurchase from me? Let's find out…
Packaging 4/5
I really appreciated that they used a plastic jar for this flower instead of the increasingly popular mylar pouches. They also included an integra pack for humidity control, which was great and shows itself in the moisture content ranking as well. However, I would have liked to see more information on the jar. They included the total terpene content (2.5%) but they don’t indicate which terpenes are the most dominant. I’ll get into this and why it matters in a little more detail in the effects section. That being said, in 2024, including at least the names of dominant terpenes is practically the standard.
Visual Appeal 3/5
This was a pretty average looking jar, but there were also some inconsistencies from bud to bud. Some of the larger buds and fox tailed ones looked as though they had been either pre-sifted or had some kief shaved off of the higher points and looked very different from the smaller popcorn buds. But the buds were mostly well trimmed and had some darker tones of purple to accompany the kief in there for a little added razzle dazzle to the eyes.
Bud Size 2/5
This was one category where they really lacked. All of the buds were quite small, and the two “large” ones were in reality, only an average sized bud.
Bud Density 4/5
Small but mighty, these were fairly dense buds.
Moisture Level 4.5/5
The integra pack added to the jar really did its job here because the buds were at a decent humidity level still. There was a little bit of squish without the dreaded crunch. That being said, this jar was packed on August 6, 2024 and I opened the jar on October 1st, 2024 so not a ton of time to sit.
Trichome Density 4/5
Another area of inconsistency was in the trichomes. On most of the buds they were very easily seen to the naked eye, and almost looked like they had been manipulated by hand somehow. However, on other buds you could hardly see them. But based on the images captured, there’s no denying the presence of trichomes on these buds. I unfortunately don’t have a scope handy so these will have to miss getting scoped, but I do wish I could have taken a closer look.
Aroma 4/5
This had a pleasant fruity aroma, but it wasn’t extremely potent that it was about to stink up a room when you opened it. I couldn't quite identify the fruit, but I guess they’ve classified it as a melon type. It certainly wasn’t a berry, or citrusy though. I would have liked a stronger kick to the nose, but it had a nice smell.
Taste 2/5
This had a sweet taste, with some subtle fruitiness. I was really hoping that I would have been able to identify the fruity aroma based on the taste, but unfortunately not much came through at all. It didn’t taste like poor quality bud, it just didn’t have a whole ton of flavour as a whole. I was expecting a little more.
Smoothness 4/5
This wasn’t harsh by any means, I wasn’t coughing or running to my puffer. It was good.
Potency & Effects 2/5
Here is another area where this jar is lacking. I mentioned earlier that they didn’t include a listing of the dominant terpenes, and I really wish that they did. They did label however, front and centre, that it’s an indica. I opened this jar a little after 9pm hoping to wind down my night. I smoked two bowls back to back because I couldn’t believe the lack of flavour (I had to smoke a second just to be sure). But I also found that after two bowls I wasn’t really feeling much. I smoked a third bowl 20 minutes later hoping to top-up the needed effects and I wasn’t getting what I was looking for. I was pacing around the house, couldn’t really settle, and the inability to relax was giving me anxiety. Although I was mildly spacey, I didn’t find this to be sedating by any means. When I was still wide awake by midnight, after smoking about a gram and a half, I put Tam Tams to bed and pulled out something else. This might be an early evening indica to stay social around a table chatting with friends, but this isn’t a late night indica to go to bed with. By labelling the terpenes on the jar, I could have been able to better anticipate the effects.
Duration of Effects 2/5
Like I said, 20 minutes after smoking two bowls I was eager to smoke another to try and achieve the effects I was looking for. For someone looking for a mild indica for a daytime smoke, this might be fine. But I wasn’t pleased with how soon I was looking for more.
Overall 36/55 (65%)
This wasn’t a terrible jar, it just isn’t going to be for the seasoned smoker. The flavour profile was unique, but not potent or tasty enough for me to want to keep coming back to it. However, for the more casual consumers, or first-timers, this may be a pleasant introduction to cannabis flower. At $23.89 at Sessions Cannabis I think it was slightly overpriced. However, I’m seeing on HiBuddy that it typically goes for $20 which I’d say is priced fairly for the correct consumer to throw this into their stash rotation. But their ideal consumer is not me and unfortunately I don’t think I’d be super quick to recommend this product or purchase it again. Not terrible, it’s just pretty average. And this market has lots of “pretty average”.
