Review
XMG is one of the OG brands in the cannabis beverage game, and I’m always excited to see what they have in the pipeline to keep themselves relevant in 2025. I was really excited about this drink because Cherry Colas are one of my favourite sodas, but recently lately I’ve been trying to take back my health by incorporating more zero-sugar items in my diet instead of their full-sugar counterparts. Will this be a staple for my fridge?
Packaging
This came packaged in a white can with a white seal, and some writing in cherry red to help identify the product in the can. Pretty basic, and while I understand that all their zero-sugar items are canned similarly, it just looks extremely boring. Gives me a sparkling water or more of a “medical” vibe. I usually hate their choice of CR packaging, but this was the first time ever I’ve been able to open one of these cans without having to take a knife to the top. So no complaints this time.
Visual Appeal
This was kind of odd, because while it was very clearly Cola-Coloured, it also appeared to be almost transparent as though it was watered down.
Aroma/Taste
This had a very potent cherry aroma when you opened the can, and flavour-wise it reminded me of the same kind of cherry flavour that the Italian-side of my family uses in their cherry cookies. That being said, it was definitely flat and tasted just as diluted or watered down as it looks.
Effects
Until we are given some higher dose beverages, I can’t say that any effects were noted. This isn’t an issue with XMG, but rather just an issue with Health Canada regulations.
Overall
XMG has been in the game for a very long time, and I really wanted to be excited about this product. It’s my favourite flavour of soda, without any sugar, and infused with THC - what's not to like? Unfortunately, this wasn’t great and at $7 even I’d go as far as to say this was wildly overpriced. This tasted severely watered down and was missing the carbonation, resulting in a can of mostly syrup. The carbonation issue seems to be common among beverage brands upon first release, but seems to get rectified as we see some new batches get released. But until both the flavour and the carbonation get addressed, this is one beverage I don’t recommend.
