Packaging 3/5

This 14g bag came packed in a large, blue mylar bag that contained some pretty basic information, as well as a humidity packet. Included information listed thc, cbd and terpene percentages, as well as listed the top 3 dominant terpenes: Myrcene, Ocimene, and Caryophyllene.

I will acknowledge that San Rafael does not package their 3.5g counterparts in mylar bags, they use plastic jars. So while I understand why they used a mylar bag for this format, that doesn’t mean I’m particularly fond of it. MedReleaf used to have (circa 2016) these round plastic jars that came with a key, and they were able to hold 14g, maybe even 28g, and they had a built-in locking component to it. In my opinion, those would have been ideal for these 14g bags, but maybe I’m just reminiscent of something that’s long gone.

Visual Appeal 4/5

These buds were all slightly above average in size, very dense, and nicely trimmed. They may have been bordering on the edge of over-trimmed thanks to the use of machine trimmers these days, but certainly nothing to be visually disappointed over. The buds were very sticky as well, but didn’t have a lot of easily seen trichomes.

Bud Size 3.75/5

Buds were all a nice size. There was no trim or shake at the bottom of the bag, and I’d estimate that each bud was a little over 0.5g. None of the buds were really monstrous in size, but I’d say each one averaged somewhere between 0.5-1g.

Bud Density 5/5

San Rafael has been consistently producing very dense buds. From Moon Berry, to Sourdough, to Pink Diesel, they’re all consistent from batch to batch. This was no different.

Moisture Level 3/5

San Rafael included a humidity package in here, which kept the buds at a decent humidity level during transport and storage. However, the buds dried out a little more than I’d like by the time I finished the bag. If this were a 3.5g jar it probably wouldn’t have been an issue, and I wouldn’t have noticed. But for a quantity this large, I was a little disappointed with how fast it dried out on me. It takes me about 5 or 6 days to consume 14g, so I like to think it didn’t sit for that long.

Trichome Density 2.5/5

These were very resinous buds that left your fingers sticky, but there weren’t a lot of trichomes that were easily seen without a scope.

Aroma 2.5/5

A light myrcene aroma  smelled like a very mild Pink Kush. I think I was left wanting a little bit more, or more of that true Pink smell. There was a little bit of myrcene, but not nearly what I was hoping for.

Taste 3/5

Similar to it’s smell profile, the flavour was slightly muted and left me wanting more of that kushy flavour that one expects when they smoke a Pink Kush. A very mild taste of myrcene, but nothing that really sticks out. Pretty average on this front.

Smoothness 3/5

This wasn’t necessarily the smoothest and produced some mild coughing after smoking. However, it wasn’t the kind of cultivar that leaves you dreading your next puff. It was fine.

Potency 3/5

This was just average in terms of potency for me. I was hoping for some really sedating effects that I enjoy from pink kush, but found this was pretty mild. I was very functional, and still up and going for hikes with my dog. At times, it was relaxing and enjoyable for an evening coloring on the couch, but not sedating.

Duration of Effects 3/5

Similar to potency, the duration of effects were pretty average, peaking around 45 minutes. After this, I felt myself looking to smoke a little more.

Overall     35.75/55 (65%)

When choosing my products, the price to quality ratio is my biggest aspect to consider. No product has to be the most potent on the shelf, as long as I feel that as a consumer I'm getting adequate quality for what I paid. This came in a little low on the number front, but that being said, I would still revisit this bag. I think regular price at most retailers is around the $85 mark for this 14g offering, but it's not uncommon to see it on sale for the $60-70 mark. At full price, it's a little expensive for what you're getting. But for $60 this was a great smoke that I wasn't disappointed about smoking for a week. The trim was nice, the flavour and smell was okay, and the high was fine. If you're looking for a budget friendly 14g Pink Diesel may be an option to consider.
