Review
I’ve been wanting to come back around to Coterie because I’ve been hearing some pretty good feedback. My only experience with them until now was their Tricopath cultivar, which I thought was extremely underwhelming. However, with this much positive feedback, I was really curious if there had been improvements. So today I’m smoking Permanent Marker to see if Coterie is indeed worth the hype.
Packaging 4/5
Right off the bat I really appreciate them using a plastic jar instead of a mylar pouch. They also included an integra boost package to assist with humidity control. Although they included the total terpene content on the jar, they didn’t list out what the dominant terpenes were. For many consumers, this has become an essential way of choosing their products and at the end of 2024, this is something I expect to see on the package. But overall, pretty good packaging. I particularly like the jar shape they went with, it makes it a little easier on the wrists for opening.
Visual Appeal 4.5/5
Beauty! Two large, extremely dense nugs. No crumbs or little buds at the bottom. Lots of trichomes easily visible to the eye. Very nicely hand trimmed.
Bud Size 5/5
The entire container was two buds, no smalls. I kind of wish I weighed it before smoking because this was very likely overweight.
Bud Density 5/5
Rock hard and no crumble! This was by far the most dense product I’ve opened in a while.
Moisture Level 3.5/5
I’m really glad that they included an integra pack in the jar. Although the buds were a great humidity level at opening, within 48h of opening the container it was starting to dry out slightly.
Trichome Density 4/5
A nice layer of trichomes were easily visible to the naked eye.
Aroma 4/5
A very heavy floral/herbal aroma of humulene and something that I’d best describe as a “Funky Farnesene”. The OCS description says it's dominant in Bisabolol as well, so I’m going to assume that’s what the Funky Farnesene is. Although the smell was pretty easy to identify, it wasn’t quite as loud as I wanted.
Taste 5/5
This was really tasty. Just like the aroma, that herbal taste really shined through. Previously I’d been a big fan of the bold citrus tastes, but recently I’ve really come to appreciate the notes of humulene, and this cultivar did not disappoint.
Smoothness 4/5
A little bit of light coughing on my bong, but nothing that wasn’t to be expected.
Potency 4/5
The effects were great, but for a hybrid I found this to be more indica-leaning. I opened this after a 12h work day and was expecting to smoke a bowl or two and then watch some tv to wind down. Coterie had different plans for me though - I was ready to go to bed after the second bowl. I smoked it again during the day, and it definitely slowed me down a bit.
Duration of Effects 4/5
Solid lasting high, wasn’t constantly feeling like I had to top myself up with another bowl.
Overall 47/55 (85%)
Well I have to say, Coterie did an excellent job with this one. My expectations were not very high, but they blew what expectations I did have out of the water. These were great buds, had a great taste, good effects, and I was pleasantly surprised at the price point. This is a great craft option for around that $30 mark. This strain has been making its rounds by various producers, but Coterie’s isn’t one to sleep on. Highly recommended.
