Review

There have been a lot of great products coming out of Quebec in recent months, so I was eager to try another cultivar from Cheers. I gave their Strawberry Grail a try about six months back, and it wasn’t bad for the price. The lineage on this girl is a cross of Biscotti and Gelonade and is described by Cheers as a “Hard Lemon Punch”. This was a sample received through the recreational market, but Cheers does offer its products through medical platforms such as Mendo Medical as well.

Packaging 4/5

I love that they didn’t use a mylar bag, and that they went the jar option. While I am a big fan of the tuna can packaging for shelf stability, I am always a little bit disappointed with how quickly the product dries out once opened. Apart from THC & CBD content, they listed the total terpene content as well as the top 3 terps, and they kindly included the harvest date along with the packaging date.

Visual Appeal 4/5

These were pretty buds! They had a variety of greens and lots of dark purple hues which really made the trichomes stand out. The trichomes themselves were easily seen by the naked eye.

Bud Size 4/5

I was really impressed by the bud size on this jar. The entire 7g container was just 5 buds, with no stem, shake, or smalls at the bottom. Some of the buds were quite large, and exactly what I want to see when I get a 7g jar. The only thing that was going to make this significantly better was going to be a 7g nug.

Bud Density 5/5

These were the perfect density for me. I’m not a fan of those buds that are just rocks that you can break a thumb on if you press too hard. These had that nerf that I was looking for, while not being a light bud that almost falls apart on the squish. Although they were a very tough grind.

Moisture Level 4/5

The humidity level on this was fantastic when I first opened the jar. However, I would have really liked a humidity packet in there because of their use of the tuna cans. Unfortunately, once you crack that seal on the cans and open them up, they’re far from being airtight. I’m writing this review on the third day after opening the can, and it’s progressively drying out a little more each day (which is to be expected though). I’d recommend consuming the can within 7 days of opening, for optimal humidity.

Trichome Density 3.5/5

Trichomes were easily visible to the naked eye on this one, but they didn’t cover the entirety of the bud. It almost looked like they either pre-sifted the buds to collect some kief from them, or they sprinkled a little bit of kief onto the buds afterwards. But something about the way the trichomes don’t really cover the entire bud is throwing me off. Unfortunately at the time of writing this, I have my scope and loupes packed up because I’ll be moving at the end of the month, but after I unpack I’d like to revisit this jar and take another look at these buds under a scope.

Aroma 4/5

This can didn’t smack you in the face with its aroma, but it was certainly present. The packaging lists the dominant terpenes in this cultivar as Caryophyllene, Limonene, and Myrcene, but the dominant smell that's being picked up is more of a Farnesene or possibly Nerolidol. I think I was expecting a more pungent aroma from 2.5% but it was very pleasant.

Taste 4/5

The taste that came through was just like the smell, and had a lot of floral and woody flavours. I’ll be honest, for a strain that was called Lemonatti and claimed to be sativa-dominant, I was really expecting a citrusy profile, but that wasn’t the case at all. The flavour here certainly comes from the Biscotti side of its lineage. Delicious though!

Smoothness 3.5/5

This was a funny one for me because it was a creeper. Not in its high, or the effects, but just that I start coughing a minute or so after smoking this, and then keep coughing for an additional 5 minutes or so. It’s got a little bit of a choke to it but it was smooth enough that I still looked forward to my next bowl.

Potency 4/5

This was a great smoke! At first I wasn’t too sure about the effects, but it was a great choice for being productive. Yesterday I had smoked a bowl, and then decided to take on a bunch of tasks that I had been pushing off for a few days. It really gave me the motivation that I was looking for. This afternoon, I smoked a bowl before taking my dog downtown for some socialization training, and we had a very pleasant afternoon. There was no burnout, and I was focused on my dog the whole time. After coming home, I was able to sit down and focus on writing this review. Sometimes after writing my review in my notebooks, it takes me some time to find the motivation to type them up. Not with Lemonatti! This has got to be the ultimate “Okay fine, lets get it done” smoke. Good stuff.

Duration of Effects 5/5

A little goes a long way with this one. Effects seemed to last about 3-4 hours and I didn’t find that I needed to keep smoking more to top-up the effects. No complaints.

Overall 45/55 (82%)

In a market that is constantly demanding flower with THC over 30%, this was a refreshing jar to smoke. I was both visually and aromatically impressed immediately upon opening the jar, and the flavour was on point, and in combination with the effects really hammered the point that THC percentage doesn’t mean everything. My only issue with this is that if it’s something you won’t be consuming immediately upon opening, you’ll probably want to put it in a different storage container that would be a little more ideal for long-term shelf life. I’m seeing online that this jar retails for around $50-55 for 7g which is a pretty fair price point for the quality. I’d be pretty happy to recommend this product, well done Cheers!
