Lineage: Glazed Donut x Candy Cream
Review
This was the second offering from True Fire that I got to try. I was a huge fan of their Tai Punch and have been eager to sample something else from them. This indica-dominant cultivar is a cross of Glazed Donuts and Candy Cream, two strains that are both unknown to me, but I’m eager to learn a little more. Let’s dive in and take a look at what's in the bag.
Packaging 2/5
While I really like the aesthetic of their red logo against the black packaging, the packaging itself was quite average. A black mylar pouch, no use of a humidity pack, and no terpenes listed on the package. We’ve come a really long way over the years in the transparency that consumers expect to see on the packaging, and in 2024 at least the total terpene percentage should be standard at this point.
Visual Appeal 4/5
These buds were bright green and so covered in trichomes that they practically appeared fuzzy. I’ve only seen that once or twice before but it was a very pretty sight. They were nicely hand trimmed but lacked in size a bit for my liking. When broken up, there was lots of purple visible which made for a nice visual in a bowl.
Bud Size 3/5
Despite the visual appeal, they lacked a little bit on the bud size and were slightly on the smaller size.
Bud Density 5/5
Extra dense! Not much else to say on that
Moisture Level 2/5
I was a little disappointed that True Fire didn’t include a humidity package in this one. The packaging date was August 5th, 2024 and when I opened the bag on October 25, not even 90 days after packaging, it was very dry. If it were any older, I would have expected to see a lot of crumbling on the squish test.
Trichome Density 5/5
I would be lying through my teeth if I scored this product any less than a 5/5 for the trichome density. These were so fuzzy with crystals that the buds practically looked fuzzy. Absolutely no scope necessary to find these. I think I have only seen trichome fuzziness like that once before (BZAM/Dunn’s Grateful Breath, RIP)
Aroma 4/5
The aromas were very pleasant, but hard to identify much apart from humulene. A very floral/herbal smell to it.
Taste 3/5
I wanted a little more flavour here, but it was good. Similar to the aroma, you were met with some easily identifiable flavours of humulene. However, the intensity of those flavours was lacking a little bit for me.
Smoothness 5/5
Lovely! Each and every bowl was a smooth toke, and I didn’t find myself coughing or looking for my inhaler at any point.
Potency 3/5
For an indica-dominant flower that's coming in at over 30% THC, I was expecting a more sedating smoke. This was a pleasant high, but it isn’t going to be a bud that I’m saving for before bed to knock me out. Might be a great smoke for an evening around a table and some chats.
Duration of Effects 3/5
Also pretty average in this category. About an hour after smoking I’d find myself wanting a top-up, but that’s pretty normal for my consumption.
Overall 39/55 (71%)
This was a fairly priced product at $32, and it was definitely not a bad product. Visually, this had some really great colours and characteristics to it, and it was kind on the lungs for anyone who, like myself, may be asthmatic. Despite the 30%+ THC, I don’t think any novice consumers need to be concerned about any adverse effects here. I don’t know that this was as good as their Tai Punch, but if you are a catalogue completionist like myself, this might be a bag worth trying at least once.
