Review

FUGA is a craft producer out of Stoneham, QC that provides for both the medical and recreational market here in Canada. They use a living organic soil to help maximize total cannabinoid levels in hopes of achieving greater entourage effects. I know many tokers who love FUGA and their commitment to the craft, so I thought this was a great opportunity to give them a try. One of my favourite cultivars is another strawberry strain, so I was eager to see if this would top my list.

Packaging 3/5

This came in a black mylar pouch with some pretty standard information like THC % and terpene % on the front. On the back they briefly mention that it's grown in living soil, but to be honest, you might miss that line if you weren't looking for it. I was very much an average package. At this point, if you aren't including the terps with the cannabinoid content, then your being left behind. It's 2024 and I'd like to see packaging evolve to the next stage. Why is your product better than the one next to it on the shelf? Give me all the details. Tell me how it's grown, tell me how long you cured it for, tell me everything. But the packaging was nothing special here. They did include a humidity package though.

Visual Appeal 4/5

This was a really pretty bag, with 3 buds in there and absolutely no shake at the bottom of the bag. The buds were decently trimmed, and were covered in a layer of white trichomes. Buds were quite dense, light green with some orange hairs almost on the amber side.

Bud Size 4/5

Hey, a few big buds with no bullshit at the bottom of the bag is all I’m asking for. The only thing that would have made this better was to see simply one big bud for the whole bag. No complaints.

Bud Density 4/5

The buds were quite pretty, with a decent density to them, but when I went in for the “squish test” the buds started to flatten out and partially come off the stem. That took a decent level of squish to reach that point though.

Moisture Level 3/5

The humidity packet included kept this bag at an acceptable moisture level. There were no really loud “cracking” noises when you squished the bud, but the bud slightly started to crumble a little bit. However, I agree that to a degree, this can also be subjective - I’m typically somebody who likes their bud very fresh. I smoked this around New Years, and it was packaged on November 8, 2023. Considering it was packaged for less than 2 months, I would have liked to see a little more moisture retained.

Trichome Density 4/5

I’m still working without a laptop, so I don’t have the ability to plug in my scope right now. I’d love to get further into trichome analysis, but unfortunately that's not possible at the moment. This was ranked based on what could be seen visually with the naked eye. Trichomes were easily seen, and gave the buds an almost “fuzzy” looking appearance.

Aroma 5/5

Oh man… this was one that smelled deliciously fruity when you opened the package. A very potent smell, but I don’t know that strawberry really jumped out specifically. This was heavy on the fruits and berries, it almost leaned towards a guava-ish profile.

Taste 4/5

This was really tasty! The taste was very similar to the smell, but you could taste a lot more of the individual notes. While strawberry specifically wasn’t really smelled, it did come through slightly in taste, complemented with some blueberry.

Smoothness 4/5

This wasn’t harsh at all, and produced very little coughing, if any at all. This certainly wasn’t a smoke that I was rushing to get my inhaler after.

Potency & Effects 4/5

This came in at a good level of potency. I certainly felt the edge come off and my moods improve, but I was also left productive for the afternoon. I spent my afternoon doing some herb repotting and then saw a couple of friends. A very pleasant smoke for being relaxed and present without a heavy burnout or too many spacey effects.

Duration of Effects 4/5

Effects lasted decently long. I occasionally needed to “top up” my high with another bowl, but that isn’t unusual for me. I wasn’t left disappointed, or wishing that I had another cultivar to smoke instead.

Overall   43/55 (78%)

This was my first experience with FUGA, but I don’t think it’ll be my last. I would say I thoroughly enjoyed this one! I’ve always been told that organic cannabis contains a higher percentage of terpenes and cannabinoids, but I haven’t been really impressed by a lot of organic products on the market. This was another first for me! I don’t think this counts as a “true organic” since we can’t account for their methods of pest control and what not, but I certainly thought the smells and tastes were more pronounced than some other organic flower I’ve consumed on the market. Visually, this wasn’t disappointing at all, and for a bag under $30 I thought this was fantastic. The whole experience, from smell to smoke, was well worth the price. I think it’s amazing that we are getting to see some craft offerings under the $30 mark -  It’ll be setting a precedent for new drop pricing.
