So as I was working on cleaning up my backstock, I was pleasantly surprised by the Kootenay Quantum's Rare Earth. I know how good it was fresh but it has held up quite well over time. Despite this being from February, it still had quite a bit of aroma and flavor. To start with, the buds were still pretty aromatic. They had a fair amount of throw to the very savory smells that made it almost smell like chicken alfredo. There were notes of garlic and fennel, along with citrus and even a touch of honey. I always find it interesting how the aromas change as buds age and certain volatiles go away.
However the pine mentioned on the bag did start to surface after grinding. The flavors on the start of smoking were very nice, mostly a kind of heavy gassy earth with hints of citrus. Unfortunately age caught up with it the rest of the smoking time going quite generic and even kind of ashy and bitter on a second joint. However I suspect you would still get some nice dry herb vaping done given how nicely it was cured. The high was short, not unexpected but nicely even across head and body and very relaxing. While I try not to make it a habit of letting things sit quite this long, fire is fire and a good cure does in fact survive the test of time.
