MTL Cannabis

Wes' Coast Kush

Foggy’s Toking:

Introduction

MTL Cannabis is not a new name in the industry, so it’s no surprise to hear that there has been a lot of talk surrounding their new releases. This drop was their first indica-leaning cultivar, and it’s safe to say that they really hit the ground running with this one as well. I picked this up for $32.50 and this batch came in at 33.1% THC, 4.87% terps, and just slightly overweight at 3.64g.

For the price point, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this product at all and I’m about to tell you all about why.

The Words

The jar lists Myrcene, Limonene, Linalool, Caryophyllene, and Farnesene on the package, and upon opening this jar you are hit in the face with a very gassy smell, heavy on the Myrcene and Farnesene for sure. The jar was packaged with a Boveda, but the buds were a tad drier than I would have liked. There was still a bit of squish to it, but I can’t deny that you hear a slight crunching between the fingers. It was packaged on May 26, 2023, so considering it’s only a couple months old I’d still like to feel a little more nerf to my buds, but I tend to prefer my buds over-hydrated compared to most. However, the jar was still overweight at 3.64g and made up of a 1.8g nug and some smaller buds to finish the half quarter..

The buds had a whole spectrum of pretty colors to it: bright green with orange hairs, and these indigo hues on some leaves that almost matched the color of the jar - a nice touch of detail on behalf of MTL. That being said it wasn’t leafy at all -  I actually appreciated the way they left just enough leaf for you to appreciate the hues in it, but not enough that any consumer would be upset over.

Strains high in Myrcene I can typically expect to cough on a bit (hello asthma), but this surprised me. There was minimal coughing on this strain, and was exceptionally smooth on the inhale. On the exhale, you really tasted those gassy notes, with a little bit of limonene coming through as well. The high was nice and mellow, but didn’t absolutely glue me to my couch. I also appreciated the lack of burnout - it let me take my dog for a walk a little later without the feeling of cinderblocks attached to my legs, and it didn’t just knock me right out.

MTL did a decent job with this one, and showed that they can grow more than just sativas and bright, citrusy strains. The quality to price ratio was fair, but maybe a dollar or two closer to that $30 mark would be nice. For anyone looking for those heavy gassy flavors, without wrecking the bank or setting aside the rest of your day for burnout, this was a great option. From the taste, to the smell, to the colors, this was a full-sensory experience.
