Why the influx of French cannabis?
Did you know that the sales of vapes are prohibited in Quebec.
It started as a trickle, a few companies and brands popping up on medical sites. Then, Growing companies, medical sites and services, and packaging.
One of the first to really explode on the market in my opinion was Cannara, with their brands Tribal and Nugz smashing the price to quality barriers and making their own category of "Budget Craft". Those words don't feel like they should be mixed, "Artisanat économique" has a better ring to it.
Before I continue I can hear the screams of a company that boasted it brought ounces to the market first. That's right! The other company that got gobbled up by Tilray; Hexo. They didn't blow up like anybody else did, instead they shrank, shriveled and sold. Now they're someone else's problem
Okay back to the original thought;
The shock that rippled through the consumer side of the industry was astounding. People gobbled it up and it exploded. Started with a few magical strains "Cuban Linx, and Gelato Mint" came at surprisingly reasonable prices, then Nugz with their Early Lemon Berry. Get out of the way, seriously.
Now with Niko Dank leading the way other companies have made their way into the spotlight. There is so many to mention but there's a few that seemed to have made an impact:
Groupe Fuga with their Fuga brand have matched the price point of Cannara but have more of an organic twist with their living organic soil. Bringing goodies to the medical market and bursting through into the recreational market with their killer strains of Mandarin Cookies LSO, Terple LSO and more.
Purple Farm, starting off as a micro grow supplier for huge names/brands. Ghost Drops - C.R.E.A.M Cake, 7Acres - Purple Pancakes & Platinum Kush Breath, that just touches the tip of a few strains they brought to market through other peoples packaging. They dropped their two styles Hazes and Jacks, and Outliers. H&J is an Orange Cookie MAC and Outliers is Stimulus. Doing crafty seven gram options.
Exka is a newer one coming out with a single strain hash, some whole flower and some full spectrum carts. The single strain hash is probably the most exciting for me since most are blended mixes. I had to mention these folks for good measures.
These are just a few of the companies and brands that have come over into the whole Canadian cannabis market, there's probably a few hundred other companies that should be mentioned but the real question is why not who.
Rumors have it that there are tax rebates on electricity and water. I did a deep dive and the amount of things you can collect rebates on and it’s astounding. Water tanks, thermostats, lights and more. The lists went on and on, I can see why people are moving facilities there.
Aurora has a grow op, Color Cannabis is setting up shop and so many more will follow suit until that bubble bursts.
I'm not sure what this will bring to the market overall. The market is saturated with micro growers, big box (corporations) and middle men. The good will stand out and the rest will merge and merge and become swag of the dead.
